Olga Smirnova workshop

Olga Smirnova — a dancer, choreographer, and instructor of authentic jazz and tap dance — is coming to Kyiv.

Olga has been living in Barcelona for four years now, where she completed a professional program for tap dancers at the Luthier School, and she continues to study and explore the world of rhythm in greater depth.

In the past, Olga was the organizer and choreographer of the show “The Jazz Era”, and she is currently a member of the Rifff Collectifff, a group that creates semi-improvised performances at the intersection of tap, body percussion, and the exploration of space through rhythm and movement. Olga also teaches at dance schools in Barcelona.

Olga is happy to share her knowledge with anyone who wants to dive deeper into the world of rhythm.

In Kyiv, she will lead two open classes: Solo Jazz and Soft Shoe.

Solo Jazz (August 15, 3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Olga will focus a lot on groove and the rhythmic aspect of dance, as well as the connection between different parts of the body. This will help you dance more freely, naturally, and harmoniously.

Olga will also provide exercises and tools for creating your own rhythmic combinations, which we’ll try to incorporate into our improvisation. In the second half of the class, we’ll learn a short choreographed routine.

Soft Shoe (August 15, 5:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.)
Soft Shoe is a form of tap dance that is usually performed to slower music and does not require special shoes.

In this class:

• we’ll get acquainted with Soft Shoe techniques;
• we’ll learn basic rhythmic combinations;
• we’ll break down a short routine;
• and we’ll also discuss how to integrate this technique into solo jazz or lindy hop.

The cost of a single class is 400 UAH (1 hour 15 minutes); if you sign up for both, the price is 700 UAH.

Classes will be held at Patefon (2/1 V. Shymanovskoho Street) з 15:45 до 18:30.

For Soft Shoe classes, it is recommended (but not required) to wear shoes with a firm sole and a small heel.
